186: carthage jail

Day 4:
Today we visited a few sites in Nauvoo, but the highlight was our trip down to Carthage where the Prophet Joseph Smith was martyred along with his brother Hyrum by a lynch mob of haters.
 Joseph's Smiths home
Lucy Mack Smith's Home {mother of Joseph}
Standing inside, you felt like you were in a doll house. The furniture was such a small scale..the buildings in general were in such small scale. What they would think of our "supersize" homes today! I don't think they'd want any part of them.
Hyrum and Joseph Smith statue outside Carthage Jail.
 This is the actual door, 167 years old, that the mobs shot a bullet through..the bullet that killed Hyrum Smith and began the martyrdom.
 The outside of Carthage jail. The top window is the window in which Joseph Smith fell through to his death.
The inside view of the window Joseph fell through. It was quite a feeling to be standing in the very room where the prophet spent the last days of his life. Though the house has been through a few owners, we were told that the floors had not gone through any reconstruction and were the actual floors. We could have very well walked where Josepeh, Hyrum, John Taylor, and Willard Richards walked.

 The sky was constantly changing..I do love a good sky photo! The clouds may have been dark, but we didn't get any rain.
 This young man is from our ward. He is serving a 2 month mission as a performing missionary out in Nauvoo this summer. He and about 20 other insanely talented youth were chosen from hundreds to share their musical talents. This performance was from "Sunset on the Mississippi". All the shows were very professional and incredibly well done.
 We passed this little house every day as we traveled from our hotel to Nauvoo. The boys were so enthralled by it and it's miniature size. It was unlike any of the other mini mansions along the riverfront, yet indicative of many of the Iowan and Illinoisan lifestyles.
