233: barcelona, spain

Barcelona, Spain
day 1

Christopher Columbus Monument..not exactly sure why they celebrate him. Once he found America, Barcelona's economy took a nose dive and fell into ruin.

Took a ride up the funicular..incredible views.
 A very populated city

 Casa Batllo..GUADI

Shouldn't all buildings have protruding eyeballs?
 Las Ramblas
How in the world do you narrow down over 1,500 pictures? This is proving to be quite a challenge.  This trip was a trip of a lifetime. We visited 8 countries and saw so many amazing things. My camera would run out of battery by noon with all the pictures I was taking, but I had a back up. Between both our phones, and 2 cameras, we had the pictures covered. I hope that I can encapsulate, in the pictures I choose, our incredible journey.
Barcelona was our first stop and it did not disappoint. We stayed here for 2 1/2 days before we got on the cruise.  We got on our plane at LAX at 8:30 a.m. and landed in Barcelona, the next day at 9:00 a.m. and immediately set out on a full day of exploring. Our excitement superseded our lack of sleep and tiredness. We got on a hop on/hop off bus so that we could get the lay of the land.  We got to see everything, while sitting and listening to the guide. Barcelona is the home to GUADI, a very modernistic artist who's inspiration is felt all over the town. It is a great blend of old world and modernism. We made a stop at the olympic stadium..Jim loves all things olympics! We had our eyes open for pickpockets, but no one dared to bother us. We made it down Las Ramblas unscathed. Barcelona is an amazing city!
