238: rome, italy

Day 6:
Rome, Italy

Our ship docked in the town of Civitavecchi..another 1 1/2 hour train ride to get to Rome. Once we got to Rome, we took the Metro to the Colosseum. The moment you step out of the Metro station, the view of the colosseum is staring at you! It's pretty amazing. Even though it had been 6 years, everything seemed so familiar, as if we had just been there. The one thing I noticed was, there was a lot more restoration and construction going on. There was scaffolding covering some of the monuments, which didn't lend itself to great pictures. We were bound and determined to make it to every major site. We succeeded! We don't waste a second..we are in constant motion! There's no resting, or sitting down. I'm not sure if people would enjoy our pace, but it works for us.
Today it was trains, subway, bus, boat and foot!

 Things that make you go, hmmmmmmm! Intriguing! Still trying to figure it out.

This is my National Geographic moment..capturing life's raw moments. This Italian woman was just sitting gumming her meat slices, with not a care in the world. Her goatee fascinated me.

 The good old Trevi fountain.  We were a little bummed because when we first walked up to it, it was completely drained and empty. It was just routine maintenance and within a few minutes they were pumping it full of water again. We had to throw our coin in..hey, it worked last time, we're back!

 Another levitating Indian..HOW?
 Pantheon..let the Angels and Demons movie tour begin. We didn't really go on a tour, but we saw all the sites!
{Jim's a big Dan Brown fan..in fact, he read the Angels and Demon book the last time we were in Italy}

happiness in a smashed coin
Spanish Steps..ridiculously crowded!
 Piazza Novona
 Vatican City..the smallest country in the world.
 St. Peters Square
Vatican security{swiss guard}..how can you take this seriously?
Roman Parliament Buidling {this was covered in scaffolding the last time we were here!}

This larger than life statue was right where we docked. I kinda like things that are random!
